Two points that need to be made here:

First, the individual citizens of the developing world can do very little to create economic freedom where none exists today. Those citizens do have the ability to limit the size of their families and to allocate their scarce resources in such a way that the children they do have will have the best possible access to education, food, etc.

It is important to remember the root causes of their hardships, but we also have to hold out some short-term remedies, since there is little we can do to restore economic freedom in the immediate term.

Second, we are not saying that people should be forced to limit the size of their families, but that those who want to do so should be allowed to do so by the safest and most effective means, without interference from religious organizations pursuing agendas totally unrelated to the welfare of the poor.

That does not seem such a big thing.
