Something's weird about the new FOX television game show called "Chance of a Lifetime" or something like that. All the contestants so far (supposedly picked from the audience) improbably share the same personal characteristics:

1. They are between 26-35.
2. They all have perfect teeth.
3. On camera, every one of them is relaxed, extroverted, and voluble.
4. They favor categories like "movies" and "pop culture."
5. They claim jobs all of which could be part-time, but don't talk much about them or give details.
6. Several of the male contestants seem to favor Pooka shell necklaces and open shirts exposing chest hair.
7. Most of the women look like they got their musty-looking clothes right out of Costuming.
8. They're all real dumbbells.

I smell a rat. This is not a cross-section of Americans so much as what Hollywood thinks Americans should be like. Are the contestants really wannabe movie actors? Acting studio students? Professional pretenders? If so, are they really competing for advertised money or is there some sort of side-deal here, like the Actor's Equity minimum?

Television can't help itself. Sooner or later the new "millionaire" style game shows will fall into scandal. It's just a question of when. Will this new FOX network show be the trigger?
