Yes, the ecological aspects suck big time... Lots of chemicals.... And, I guess it's the emulsions, are made from cow bones.... so there you go... vegetarians should pitch their old cameras and go for the digitals...

A couple of years ago, the price/quality just didn't justify the change, but that is changing very quickly now.

I think that the biggest advantage of all might be the "cost" and convenience. A lot of people won't take photos because they don't want to "waste" a picture and so they go around with a roll of film in their camera for months (which isn't particularly good for the film or photo quality). It's good to see people "enabled", so that they can just click away without feeling *inhibited*, because that's really the only way to get super pics...
