O/T--This may explain Slider's absence:

(AP)Chicago: A Chicago area man, found last night on State Street, was admitted today to the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Hospital for what doctors described as an extraordinary case of ankle contractures from extreme scarring. Although somewhat incoherent from pain and the contents of an open bottle of Chateaux Margaux '86, he seemed to say that he had been savaged by a pack of Chihuahuas on roller blades. Police are looking into the man's complaint that the dogs, after biting him and urinating on his shoes, skated off with his briefcase.

The man declined to give his name or an interview, other than to say that as a former state track champion, he could easily have run down the dogs were he not hobbled by the scar tissue. Police found the man sane if unusual, and allowed him to retain his dart set, with which he was practicing on a Princess Diana cover of People magazine as this reporter left the hospital.
