Hello johariwindow,

Sorry for the long delay ... I've been swamped lately and keep falling behind on these threads ... ;-)

Yes ... as a technologist I have seen the potential of the 802.11b market and products. I have been taking direct steps to interact with this market and the various companies to provide feedback, beta testing, and evolution of the products. I am directly working to effect the creation of this market. I want to state that to date I have received no direct compensation for any of this ... it's a dream that I have and I am working to create this future. The only indirect compensation that I have received are some free products that I got to keep after testing, and the joy of seeing the future unfolding as I have predicted/created. ;-)

No offense taken. I can understand the "line" that I am close to ... and I have started to recognize that this same line is walked by George Gilder in his work to create the future.

Some of the risks that I see coming are the higher-speed cellular networks. These could be compared to companies like Metricom who are working on higher-speed, metropolitan area wireless networks. If the cell companies are able to get the prices to a reasonable level, then this becomes a very viable access method for public "hot spots" ...

But since I use 802.11b at my home, and both of my offices, I have to say that I do not see any other wireless solution coming in soon to disturb this growth curve.

So what other issues could effect ISIL? One thing that I have been watching lately is the development of the Pacific Rim semiconductor industry. I do believe that if they continue to evolve the capabilites of their foundries, they will be able to produce chips sets as prices which could undercut players like ISIL. My understanding right now is that Lucent/Phillips make one solution, and Intersil makes the other. And it is my understanding that although the Pacific Rim semiconductor vendors are now producing various Ethernet chip sets (adapters and switches, etc.) and other, increasingly complex, chip sets they might not yet be at the point of developing their own 802.11b chipsets ... but I'm not absolutely sure.

I know that several of the Intersil customers *are* the "high-volume/low-cost" manufacturers from the Pacific Rim who are working to drive this to commodity status very quickly. I just found out that Singapore's new airport is entirely built with 802.11(b) wireless networking ... ;-)

The other issue with the cellular providers is what I am seeing with Nokia ... I see them as a real leader in cellular, and when I then saw them adopting and endorsing 802.11b I decided that this is an indication of their understanding of the potential here ...

I'll keep working to provide more information ... and I look forward to any other analysis of ISIL ... I want to hear what others think ... I'm in and happy with things so far. ;-)
