More Tax dollars needed for this one....(Clinton Offers Aid for Workers Taking Family Leave-article below) BIG TIME Tax Dollars!....

How can the government say on one hand that the number of people paying INTO Social Security is going down, and on the other hand, come up with a fool plan like this....JUST WHO is going to pay for this....the TAXPAYERS, of course....and since there are fewer and fewer paying less (bottom 50% of taxpayers pay 4.6 or 4.9% of the total tax paid...see my earlier post)....And the Top 5% of Taxpayers paying by far the largest percentage of the total tax take... Ahhhh shoot, maybe we should all work for the government...

Let me see, how many government workers are there??? And how many at one time will either have a new child or an elderly relative to take care of for up to three months--- Plus vacation (average companies 1-2 weeks after first year...government about 2-4 weeks or more depending on length of service), sick leave (for average companies, about 5 days, and for government...heaven only knows_, and holidays (for average companies...about 7-8 holidays...government about 12).....Add it up folks.... WHO PAYS FOR THE GOVERNMENT WORKERS TIME??? TAXPAYERS>>>

Days paid and not worked.... WITHOUT ADDING IN 12 weeks/3 months/60 days of PAID Family leave (and the little thought about hidden cost.....if the person's job is valuable to the company at all, the cost of hiring and training a temporary worker for the time the regular employee is gone)

Clinton Offers Aid for Workers Taking Family Leave

Jun 10 11:24am ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Clinton announced measures on Saturday to make it easier for families to care for newborn children or a seriously ill relative.

Clinton said in his weekly radio address that one of the measures would encourage states to pay unemployment benefits to parents who took unpaid leave from work to care for a new baby or adopted child.

The other would allow federal employees, effective on June 20, to take up to 12 weeks of paid sick leave to care for a family member with a serious health condition.

``People are working more jobs and longer hours than ever before, forcing many of them to make the unacceptable choice between being good workers and the best parents or caregivers,'' the president said.

Families are already allowed to take up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave after the birth of a child or to look after a sick relative under the Family and Medical Leave Act, which Clinton signed shortly after taking office in 1993.

``Still there are too many families that aren't making use of the law because they simply can't afford to take the time off if it means sacrificing a paycheck,'' he said.

In May 1999, Clinton issued a directive to the labor secretary to offer states the unemployment insurance option. Saturday's announcement marked the completion of the regulation.

While the unemployment insurance initiative is voluntary, Clinton said that 15 states were already considering legislation to implement it and he encouraged more to follow suit.

Expanding the amount of sick leave that federal employees could take to care for a relative was aimed at encouraging private-sector employers to do the same for their workers, the White House said.

``This parental leave benefit is good news for new parents,'' Judith Lichtman, president of the National Partnership for Women and Families, said of the parental leave measure.

``Today, most women work for pay, and most men want more time with their families. Yet, even in an era of unprecedented prosperity and at a time when we know that parental involvement helps babies thrive, far too many moms and dads cannot afford time off to care for their babies,'' she said.
