Without ever having bought Sun hardware or software, I would have been anticipating Sun to compete more with IBM than with Microsoft. And it seems that both IBM and Sun are doing pretty well - Sun is growing over here, pushing out other Unix vendors. And I think their growth hurts Unix vendors more than MSFT on the non-internet part, and the internet part has never really been MSFTs domain, and Sun is up against FreeBSD and Linux, which are very low cost.

I start to believe that SUNWs attitude towards MSFT is mostly because they want to keep MSFT out of the internet market, not because they are in direct competition. If people chose MSFT for internet servers, they wouldn't consider Sun (over here in Europe).
