All these GSMer's like Reagan
Maurice, priceless comment from your PM correspondent, as a QCOM long since July 1997, I need to frame this.
The point I made exactly is that there will either be x-licenses similar to that with ERICY, or litigation.
And good on our guys for letting the rest of the GSM crowd know that today's low, low IPR royalty rates may be a limited time offer only, and letting their customers know that despite the oft soft talk, there's a big legal stick in San Diego.
But while it is true that we have a pretty good handle on the licensing terms for Q's IPR, we don't w/r/t the redacted x-license amounts, particularly where there is heavy DS IPR from the other party. And there will be that crowd that bets litigation and the pressure to settle will get them a better deal.
Been trying, perhaps with little success, to temper the optimistic view of the world future with some other reasonable scenarios of future reality. Sigh.
BTW, For the info of your correspondent, I did read the ERICY deal long, long time ago, as well as the following recent Neopoint royalty agreement (if your correspondent is having difficulty sleeping, he should click this): sec.gov
Also, I posted extensively on the NOK thread (that Teroistic bastion of GSM-dom), around two months ago, on the practical necessity of NOK entering into a 3G x-license with QCOM, while pointing out some possible leverage the wily Finns can get on the x-license side.
Lastly, I'm filing a thread rules complaint with Ramsey. Being called a "GSM'er" is the lowest form of flaming! <vbg> |
