Strong earthquake hits Taiwan, 21 injured

Taipei--June 11--An earthquake measuring 6.7 on the Richter scale
jolted central Taiwan early Sunday, injuring at least 21 people and
sending panic-stricken residents scrambling for shelter, officials and
reports said. The quake, the strongest to strike the island this year, hit
at 2:23 a.m. (1823 GMT Saturday), with the epicenter 47.4 kilometers
(28.4 miles) north of Jade Mountain and 10.2 kilometers (6.0 miles)
below the earth's surface, seismologists said. (Story .10027)
