I thought we established earlier that Sun is a monopoly with respect to Java. Will you forgive me if I trust a lengthy legal wringing out of the truth with regard to Microsoft's monopoly position versus Mozek's online stipulation that Sun has a monopoly? Certainly I admire the efficiency of your process in coming to that conclusion and, above all, the way you were able to put aside your investment in Microsoft as an influencing factor. All of the source for Java is available and you can create your own implementation and improve upon it to your heart's content. They also have an increasingly open change request process. What they don't want is a repeat of the mind numbing fiasco undergone by C++: it was "standarized" two years ago which was ten years after it was clearly positioned as a bet-the-farm language. To extend the analogy, Java could look forward to standardization by the year 2010, right? Well, no, because of all the standard APIs, you would be looking at 2040 with the glacial pace of those standards bodies. Finally, who wants companies who make a business out of violating anti-trust laws contributing to a technology that will put them out of business? Not I, but then I have that nasty habit of injecting common sense into the thought process.
