For those of you with multiple PCs, one of the easier solutions is to go with a DSL router instead of a modem. This connects to the network, not the individual PC and thus requires no add-on goodies to do sharing or NAT or whatever since it is all built in. Mine, at least, has a pretty comprehensive firewall built into the router and, since that is the access path, anything stopped there has no chance to get at any of the systems on the network. I was surprised that the router was shipped with the firewall off, but it was very easy to turn on the default firewall that basically blocks anything not originated from inside and it looks like it would be quite easy to close down or open up any pieces I wanted to.

p.s., interesting that firewall is not in the SI dictionary!
