Yes. In a bear market caused by a recession, the financials will go down because the "e" in the "p/e" will fail.

I don't like the group now. Too risky. They have discounted not only the end of the tightening cycle but some easings as well IMO. That is a high risk bet IMO.

I note the BKX has been hammered the past week. Absolutely crushed. Any gains posted as a result of the economic reports of the prior week were lost this week.

I will say that they were crushed after making gangbuster gains the past few months and it will be interesting to see what happens going forward.
