Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Unaffected by Earthquake
Hsinchu, Northern Taiwan, June 11 (CNA) Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), the world's largest contract chip foundry, was unaffected by the major earthquake that hit central Taiwan on Sunday, the firm has announced.
TSMC Vice President K.C. Chen said that there was no power outage in the company's fabrication plants after the earthquake struck. She said that TSMC's buildings, water distribution, and power distribution systems were unaffected as well.

According to Chen, initial estimates indicate that less than half a day's wafer moves was lost. Normal manufacturing resumed after equipment inspections, she added.

Sunday's temblor measured 6.7 on the open-ended Richter scale and hit central Taiwan's Nantou County. The land-locked county was still recovering from last year's Sept. 21 earthquake, which killed more than 2,400 people islandwide.
