Dear Mr. President:
I want to talk with you again about my dismay over the DOJ's continued harassment of MSFT. It is really become appalling to fair minded individuals everywhere and I ask that you put a stop to it.
Mr. President, did you see that spectacle last week? AG Reno and Klien were out their congratulating each other on their victory and going on and on about how the ruling will reinvigorate the computer industry. How do they know it will "reinvigorate" the computer industry? Well, apparently they just know. They heaped praise upon themselves, calling each other courageous and commending each other for their bravery. Heck you would think they had just won WW II the way their were carrying on. It was a pitiful spectacle to watch. Of course, not to be out done, David Boies, the governments own special persecutor, and a few of the states attorneys jumped on the bandwagon of self-praise. It was a pitiful sight. If you missed it you were lucky.
Now I read in the AP, Stephen Houckthat is calling Gates contentious, combative and arrogant. Don't you think that is a bit personal? I mean, just because Gates didn't kowtow to the government lawyers, they call him arrogant. He has a right to disagree with a ruling doesn't he? You bet he does, and he was right to do so.
Judge Penfield Jackson said later he knew little about the computer industry and didn't know anything about Microsoft except that they make some of the software that makes his computer work. Judge Jackson certainly demonstrated his lack of understanding of the computer industry when he frequently referred to the Netscape Navigator as the Netscape operating system.
To think that all this started because MSFT incorporated a browser into the operating system, thereby making it easier and less costly for the consumer. |
