Taiwan Semiconductor Says Quake Caused Only Minor Losses

Hsinchu, Taiwan, June 12 (Bloomberg) -- Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., Taiwan's biggest chipmaker, said it suffered only minimal damage from Sunday's earthquake.

``The company's buildings, HVAC systems, water distribution and power distribution systems successfully withstood the effects of the earthquake,'' the company said in a statement. Its wafer fabrication facilities ``resumed normal production after a thorough equipment check.''

The magnitude-6.7 quake struck at 2:24 a.m. Sunday with an epicenter in Taiwan's central Nantou County, about 50 kilometers south of Hsinchu.

The company said it needed only minor adjustments and repairs to equipment, though there was ``less than half a day's loss of wafer moves.''

TSMC shares rose NT$1 ($0.03), or 0.6 percent, to NT$158, on Friday, prior to the earthquake.
