DDR was chosen because of cost-per-MB and because of capacity. There doesn't need to be any more argument.

The reason why capacity is important, is because of it's affect on bandwidth. Inadequate amounts of DRAM cause memory accesses to disk, which severely reduces the effective bandwidth of the memory subsystem.

You can argue endlessly about the theoretical bandwidth capabilities of different memory types, but in the real world, DRDRAM based memory subsystems do not provide adequate memory bandwidth for servers.
