ot--Nokia wins $900 mln Turkish GSM deal

(UPDATE: Adds details, share price reaction)

HELSINKI, June 12 (Reuters) - Finnish telecom equipment maker Nokia said on Monday
it had won a $900 million, three-year GSM mobile network expansion deal with Turkish
Telsim, the largest order ever for its Nokia Networks unit.

``The agreement includes upgrading the Telsim GSM 900 mobile network with switching
equipment, base stations, radio transmission, and intelligent network solutions to enhance
services for a further 1.5 million prepaid customers,'' Nokia said in a statement.

It said Istanbul-based Telsim had some three million subscribers spread over 79 provinces, and has added 1.2 million prepaid
subscribers to its market in the last two months.

Nokia, the world's largest cellphone maker and the second largest mobile infrastructure firm after Sweden's Ericsson , said it
estimated the number of mobile subscribers in Turkey would exceed 15 million by 2001.

Nokia's share price was up 1.7 percent at 61.40 euros at 0816 GMT.

GSM stands for the Global System for Mobile Communications mobile phone network standard.
