Well i was being flippant there, using a little hyperbole ... of course i will have an influence, it is my habit to preach eclectic reading and eclectic linguistics, and of course i will teach those to the children ... i don't think it necessary to exclude religion from the spectrum, though, i don't share your entirely black view of it for one thing, and for another a study of religion i would consider as part of basic understanding of culture and history ... for sure my children will hear first of the planet they're on, its neighbours, their movements and distances, botany, zoology, geology and the story it tells, dinosaurs of course [we have distant family near Drumheller Alberta, kids love that stuff, we will visit] ... i'll have little fear for the vulnerability of their minds to the sacerdote.
Religion is just another doing of Man, no more no less ... ditto the various political isms ... imho an integral part of putting them in perspective is losing fear of them, viewing them without emotion ... i was raised in extreme religion, and know that to be wrong, but the period of fear and loathing seems to have passed, and i just don't think it important enough to be scarey any more ... show me a fanatic evangelic and that changes, though -g- |
