Jim,

Who cares?

You do, and I'll explain why. The embedded microprocessor market is huge, far exceeding the size of the x86 marketplace in unit sales. If embedded CPU's are building DDR memory controllers into their designs, every single one of them will ship with DDR memory.

The boys are having enough trouble just getting all their cache on the same die. It is not likely that they are going to be trying to embed the main PC memory for a long time.

This has nothing to do with what I was talking about, but I'm used to that on this thread. As long as you brought the subject up though- Mips just announced a 64 bit 3.0 GFlops core, with a die size of only 37mm2. Obviously they are having no trouble "getting all their cache on the same die". If they could also save $20 by embedding 16MB of DRAM on the same die, it would be quite cost effective.
