ehopper,
Wow! Try a multi-mode phone?

Roaming service in Japan starts June 15
SK Telecom (SKT) yesterday said that it would start roaming service in Japan in conjunction with NTT DoCoMo.

"The roaming service will be available starting June 15 using a dual-standard mobile phone that can support both
our CDMA (code division multiple access) and NTTDoCoMo's PDC (personal digital cellular) standards," said a
company official.

Users may sign up for the international roaming service at any one of SKT's offices and receive a special
dual-standard phone manufactured by Matsushita Electric. In Korea, the user can continue to use his own number
but need to use a number assigned by NTTDoCoMo when in Japan.

SKT said it plans to offer about 2,000 wireless handsets to corporate customers on long-term lease. The handsets
will cost about 50,000 won per month with a minimum lease period of six months, according to the company.

International roaming will also be available for SKT customers travelling in Australia through Telstra starting in
August, in time for the Sydney Olympic Games, according to the official.

"We've also signed a deal with China's Unicom for roaming in China," said the official, adding that the service is
likely to commence early next year. (KHR)
