Serial killers

are sociopaths and I find it accurate to say they have forfeited their lives by their actions, much as other criminals forfeit their freedoms. These outcomes of crime are known ahead of time in an effort to deter, but as some are claiming here, the system is fallible and the message is often ignored.

I would not consider the death penalty appropriate for all homicides, but serial killers qualify easily.
