Interesting about the antlers... I thought that too, but there was plenty of loose velvet flapping around. However, maybe it's related to the strange weather this year... It was like summer back in February-March (70+ F. weather), but now it's been cold and rainy for about 2 months... hmmm....

Around our area, the land is getting very sliced up by roads and "country estate" subdivisions. I think it's been putting a lot of pressure on the deer populations for a couple of years. Just along the 1/2 mile or so stretch of highway near our farm, I know of at least 6 deer being killed between last summer and now... Could have been more that I didn't know about. All of the deer around here travel in very small groups (2 or 3). When one gets killed, they remaining one often hooks up with a herd of beef cattle and spends the summer with them on one of the area pastures. Sometimes we end up with an extra "goat" hanging around our pasture for the summer, just like this year.
