STEEL LIMA Goes Live With J.D. Edwards B2B Supply Chain Collaboration in Under Eight Weeks
DENVER, June 13 /PRNewswire/ -- J.D. Edwards & Company (Nasdaq: JDEC), a leading provider of agile, collaborative software solutions for the Internet economy, today announced that STEEL, an Austria-based virtual digital steel marketplace, has successfully implemented J.D. Edwards' Active Supply Chain solution, including xtr@, its Internet-based supply chain collaboration solution, in under eight weeks. As part of STEEL's logistics information management project (LIMA), J.D. Edwards' B2B technology provides the companies within the value chain with a collaborative environment of real-time information to improve supply chain processes, reduce operating costs and accelerate responsiveness.
STEEL is an innovative, joint undertaking of a number of industry leaders -- Voest Alpine Stahl Linz, a steel manufacturer; Industrie-Logistik Linz, a fourth-party logistics company the Federal Railways of Austria; various trucking companies; Preymesser, consignment warehouses; and German automobile manufacturers such as BMW and DaimlerChrysler -- to optimize the distribution of finished flat steel through the extended supply chain. With J.D. Edwards' Active Supply Chain solution, the participating companies were able to transition their supply chain from a "push" to a "pull" model. In this model, changes in automobile production are electronically transmitted to J.D. Edwards' supply chain planning engine where exception alerts are automatically generated and routed to the trading partners who are authorized to take corrective action. The xtr@ supply chain collaboration solution enables real- time transfer of demand and supply information allowing value chain exceptions to be resolved quickly and accurately.
"The STEEL digital marketplace is a truly collaborative virtual enterprise. In less than eight weeks, we were able to establish a virtual B2B marketplace for the steel and automotive industries. With J.D. Edwards' supply chain technology, our companies are more efficient in delivering finished steel product and service throughout the supply chain, ultimately increasing their own profitability, and improving the level of customer service to our automotive partners," said Dr. Ralph Gallob, Managing Director, Industrie-Logistik-Linz, STEEL.
STEEL's virtual enterprise model encompasses new business processes, like supply chain collaboration and fulfillment, necessary to digital marketplace success in the New Economy. J.D. Edwards' Active Supply Chain solution enables these new business processes with xtr@'s real-time message and alert capabilities built on top of DOMA (distributed object messaging architecture).
"Value chains like STEEL are enabling competitive advantage in today's new economy. For companies to transition to new business models they must focus on profiles of trust, non-intrusive adoption and fulfillment through real-time, event-driven collaboration with suppliers and customers," said Michael Schmitt, J.D. Edwards' senior vice president, Business-to-Business E-Commerce. "The STEEL LIMA project is a real, live example of how supply chain collaboration can radically improve business processes between trading partners."
STEEL LIMA is a joint project between several technology companies, including J.D. Edwards, CSC Ploenzke AG, who is providing project management consulting, and Start Amadeus, a subsidiary of Lufthansa IT Services, which is hosting the J.D. Edwards Active Supply Chain applications.
