Dear Elmer:

It is Intel that makes phony scores. Try it using the best DIY available processors on the best DIY available motherboards available right now. That is a 933Mhz P3 on a Supermicro PIIIDM3 (thats a i840 with two MTH-S) and PC133 SDRAM, whoops MTH-S are buggy therefore not best available platform. No i840 with RMBS area available in DIY market. Let us try for a i820 with RMBS. One available from ASUS P3C-S. And two RMBS PC800 256MB RIMMS, for a total of $2,832. A 1Ghz K75 Athlon on Abit's KA7 with 1GB of PC133 CAS2 (4 x 256MB) for $2,094. Let us run comparisons using programs compiled with gcc on linux running simulations and compiles. Whoops! Athlon still beats Cmine. Let us try Windows 98. Whoops! Cmine still is slower overall. Let us try Win2000. Lets do workstation loads like Content authoring, 3D CAD, and CAM applications. Cmine still loses! Lets us try SPEC on Microsoft Visual C (no plug-ins). Cmine still loses! Let us run some special Intel built applications using SSE with no 3D-Now. Now finally Cmine beats Athlon but just barely. Let us use Intel built hyperoptimizing compiler for Cmine with SSE and prefetching that even a CS guru can't get to reliably compile. Let us make sure that when an Athlon is detected, that we use practically unoptimized code. Cmine wins SPEC!. Let's show em. Whoops! CS guy shows output from SPEC is wrong against unoptimized code (happens from time to time with 4.5 plug in). Paper over that.

Yeah Cmine is faster on best available platform on Intel pushed benchmarks. But it does so at a price of $738 more. However, in general on typical power user loads at the same price and in the DIY, Cmine loses to Athlon. Tbird, in a month or two, will just make it worse. AMD supported kyrotech cooled 1.4Ghz Tbirds on KT133 or Ali DDR motherboards will smoke Cmine which still may not get to 1GHz in the DIY market. Willie better get here fast and have higher performance than the Athlon derivative at that time or there will be hell (the Intel Stockholders) to pay.

Pete
