Hi HDL,
RE: the cheap computer manufacturers hurt the dells, compaqs, ibms, hewlett packards, etc.
While seven families I know should not be considered a large enough cohort for the whole computer buying population, e-machines actually helped DELL. All except one of them returned their e-machine and purchased a DELL online. They got a much better machine for not a significant amount of more money. They were fooled into thinking digital manipulation software, scanning images to computer, and heaven forbid, video editing would run smoothly on a $399 machine (after $75 rebate). They were fooled into thinking that a 4.3 HDD would hold all their costco bought software. They all said, "the salesperson said it is a good machine."
On one hand we have software and accessories which require more computing power, more space,, etc..and a fooled segment of the population thinking it can be done at a price equivalent of a family of 4 outing to Yankee Stadium. They realized this after the mistake, and then were so fed up that they sat at friends' computers and bought DELL's. Now, they are happy.
(Of course, maybe they were just fed up with me bothering them to buy DELL's and bought them just to shut me up!) |
