SAO PAULO, June 13 (Reuters) - Industrial employment in Sao Paulo, Brazil's biggest manufacturing state, edged up 0.22 percent in May after a 0.14 percent rise in April, the state's Federation of Industries (Fiesp) said on Tuesday.
The state -- home to large automotive and agro-business industries -- generated 3,523 new jobs in April. In the first five months of the year it added 12,138 new jobs, signaling some economic recovery.
Between January and May, industrial employment rose 0.76 percent.
Brazil hopes to meet an ambitious target of 4 percent economic growth this year. In 1999, industrial employment in Sao Paulo state fell 3.6 percent, after a 7.7 percent decline in 1998.
