Xilinx Revenues Exceed $1 Billion in Fiscal 2000; Q4 Sales Up 16% Sequentially
Business Wire - April 20, 2000 16:35
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 20, 2000--Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ:XLNX) today announced record results for fiscal 2000. Total revenues were $1.02 billion, setting a Company record and making Xilinx the first programmable logic company in history to achieve this significant milestone. This represents an increase of 54% from the $662 million reported in the prior fiscal year. Net income for the fiscal year was $652.5 million, or $1.90 per diluted share, including a $674.7 million ($398.1 million net of taxes) one-time gain resulting from the merger of United Silicon Inc. (USIC) with United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC). Excluding this one-time gain and a write-off of in-process technology associated with the acquisition of Philips' CPLD business, net income was $257.6 million, or $0.75 per diluted share.

Fourth quarter revenue was a record $306.6 million, an increase of 16% from the previous quarter, and an increase of 66% from the fourth quarter of last year. Net income for the fourth quarter was $78.3 million, or $0.22 per diluted share, excluding the above-mentioned one-time gain. This is an increase of 14% from the prior quarter and an increase of 99% from the same quarter of the prior year.

"The March quarter was a quarter in which Xilinx realized significant milestones," commented Wim Roelandts, Xilinx's chief executive officer. "Not only did Xilinx become the first PLD Company to exceed $1 billion in revenues for a fiscal year, but Xilinx was also first-to-market with a copper-based FPGA. Additionally, cumulative revenues from Xilinx's fastest growing product family, the Virtex family of FPGAs, surpassed $100 million--only six quarters after introduction." Roelandts continued, "As we embark on fiscal 2001, I am encouraged by the tremendous customer acceptance of our newest products, which include Virtex-E FPGAs, Spartan-II FPGAs and CoolRunner CPLDs. These products position Xilinx to capitalize on the vast opportunities provided by the broadband communications and digital consumer markets."(1)
