Ruffian: What is missed by many so far is the point that you have just posted.

While China Unicom has delayed the initiation of IS-95 current technology, it is saying loud and clear that it will use Qualcomm's 3rd gen technology - with the strong implication that the path will be 1X asap, then adding HDR, i.e. the first phase of CDMA 2000.

The choice for "testing" is CDMA 2000 - not repeat not WCDMA.

This is HUGE.

It means that China Unicom is indicating that it plans to use CDMA 2000.

The implications for Asia (and the world) of that are worth the delay to date, no?

Best.
