CHICAGO, Supply Chain Expo, June 14 /PRNewswire/ -- J.D. Edwards & Company (Nasdaq: JDEC), a leading provider of agile, collaborative solutions for the Internet economy, today announced the general availability of an enhanced Active Supply Chain solution, delivering key functionality that enables more comprehensive collaboration among the participants in a virtual supply chain. Active Supply Chain is a comprehensive Internet-designed solution for automating planning, execution, collaboration and optimization within a virtualized trading community. The integrated planning and execution solution allows for the sharing of real-time, accurate and appropriate information for the purposes of optimizing organizations' supply and demand networks. Active Supply Chain is a key component of the J.D. The Production and Distribution Planning component of Active Supply Chain creates a collaborative supply chain network in which participants share real-time information for utmost efficiency in the virtual trading community. Plans are generated that account for the costs and constraints associated with manufacturing, but also incorporate procurement, distribution, and transportation planning requirements. Further, the Enterprise Planning component allows the synchronization and optimization of material flow, strategically allocating critical resources under constantly changing market conditions. New enhancements to Enterprise Planning include enhanced geographical mapping capabilities that enable companies to communicate and graphically represent plans and their supply chain network, significantly improving decision support.
"Today's news highlights our commitment to addressing industry-specific needs of our diverse customers, offering highly customized solutions which deliver measurable competitive advantage," said Michael Schmitt, senior vice president of B2B e-commerce for J.D. Edwards. "With this release of Active Supply Chain, we are bringing our customers powerful solutions to open their systems to suppliers and customers, achieving utmost efficiency in supply chain environments to fully capitalize on opportunities in collaborative commerce."
Production Scheduling for Discrete Manufacturing
J.D. Edwards has enhanced its Active Supply Chain solution for discrete manufacturers in industrial fabrication and high tech/electronics organizations. The new Production Scheduling solution addresses the unique problems of scheduling for discrete manufacturing, with solver technology that automatically adapts to specific business requirements. J.D. Edwards Production Scheduling for Discrete Manufacturing, a new component of Active Supply Chain, enables companies to better meet customer commitments by allowing optimum scheduling efficiency. Using the fully automated solver, the solution can generate feasible schedules with little or no user involvement, in work order or sales order driven environments. The event-based design of Production Scheduling provides the detail necessary to ensure feasibility across all manufacturing stages. The ability to dynamically understand and optimize manufacturing bottlenecks translates directly into the ability to accept a higher volume of orders; this ability also makes the tool ideal for implementing lean/flow manufacturing in complex environments. Cost of ownership is also more efficient, as the solution automatically reconfigures to solve evolving scheduling challenges.
Active Supply Chain customers will be discussing the benefits they have gained through deploying J.D. Edwards' leading solutions for supply chain collaboration at FOCUS, J.D. Edwards' annual User Conference, next week in Denver, Colorado. More information on the event is available at questnet.org . (See related release, June 14, 2000)
