On the other hand, I am a firm believer in the rule of law and I believe that 7 judges will be guided by the past 100 years of antitrust law rather than bias or politics (as I believe TPJ was).

I agree. In fact, when this case finally gets a thorough and objective review, I believe that Microsoft will be exonerated. I also believe that TPJ will never have the opportunity to lay his hands on it again, in spite of how impressed you are with him (please do remember that sentiment when the true quality of his conduct is exposed). The outcome will no longer have to do with bias and politics, just facts and law. The willingness of the appeals court to step up and intercede in the charade restores a little of my faith in the courts and demonstrates that TPJ is more a loose cannon than a reasonable representative of our country's legal system.
