Thank you for your civil response. The purpose of a board such as SI is to allow its participants to engage in a discussion where different points of view are brought forth in a civilized and thought provoking manner. Often times a contradictory position in a discussion is taken simply to add interest to the exchange and possibly explore different perspectives while at the same time possibly provoking new ideas which neither party would have realized on his own. However, when insults or shouting occur it defeats the purpose of this exercise.

Now, to clarify a couple of issues which you raised:

1) Faith - ....I don't have any

2) "there comes a time when a theory gains a certain critical mass that enables us to accept it, pending further clarification,..."

Sorry, not me!!! If a million people said that elephants could fly I would not believe it until I saw it myself or had some concrete evidence to prove it. By the same token, I don't believe the millions of people who claim they saw the Virgin Mary at Lourdes.

As a child I remember reading about when Cain killed Abel (sp), two pages later Cain ran to a village. Now, if Adam and Eve were the first two and they only had to children where the heck did the villagers come from???? Therefore, Karen, I too learned from a very young age that the Bible should not be taken literally.
