I think you are wrong. Victims get enormous compassion. I have NO compassion for the guilty criminals (well, very little). There is no parity between being a victim and being a murderer. There is no amount of redress that can bring back the dead. And since the State is ALWAYS f*cking up at everything it does, from Social security payments to the DMV I do NOT want it taking lives in the justice system. Not because of the guilty (whom I really don't care very much about, except for the excess cost of trying capital cases) but because of the innocent who I DO care about- THAT is where injustice lies. Being humane I worry a great deal about the innocent people caught in the justice system- and they ARE clearly there. Have any been executed? probably. I worry about that NOT about the guilty. If you don't worry about the innocent I don't know what to tell you. Except that the innocent are innocent whether killed by a criminal or by the state.
