StorageTek Introduces New SAN Disk Component; Leveraging Strategic Storage Alliance With Sun Microsystems
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 14, 2000-- StorageTek(TM) (Storage Technology Corp.)(NYSE:STK) announced today at the Sun Network Storage Launch in Santa Clara, Calif., that it will market the new Sun StorEdge T3 product as the StorageTek 9175 Disk Array, a StorageNet SAN solution.
The announcement is part of the storage alliance announced last August in which StorageTek agreed to OEM Sun's open enterprise disk storage and Sun agreed to OEM StorageTek's enterprise and client server tape automation systems.
The StorageTek 9175 Disk Array is optimized for bandwidth- and image- intensive application environments as well as high input/output applications, and will be available to Sun and StorageTek customers beginning in the third quarter of this year.
"With a shared strategy," said Susan Bailey, StorageTek corporate vice president, US/Canada Sales & Service, Global Channels and Strategic Alliances, "StorageTek and Sun Microsystems have teamed to deliver a leading-edge data storage offering to the open systems environment through high-performance availability and scalability.
We have selected the Sun StorEdge T3 as one of the key components of our overall SAN strategy. Along with the StorageTek L series tape libraries, this disk array provides the perfect complement to our successful StorageNet SAN solutions, providing customers with SAN interoperability, LANFree Backup, disk storage pools and heterogeneous connectivity."
Commenting from an international perspective, Alain Andreoli, StorageTek corporate vice president, International Operations, Global Services and e-Business, said, "We share Sun's vision of flexible storage solutions designed for the Net economy and already have seen some great successes with our international customers since we began the alliance with Sun. We are looking forward to our continued partnership with Sun and our mutual customers around the world."
Integrated into the StorageNet SAN solution family of products, this disk array delivers reliability in extreme performance computing applications. It offers high levels of redundancy and a switched loop architecture that survives failures without loss of performance, ensuring the safety of business-critical data. The disk array is pre- configured to provide ease of installation and redeployment so businesses can implement and realize ROI quickly.
StorageTek has targeted general availability of the disk array for July 11, 2000. In addition, StorageTek will provide ongoing service and support for sales of the 9175 into other markets, offering heterogeneity for HP9000, IBM's RS/6000, Windows NT and Linux.
"StorageTek adds a credible storage-focused partner to the Sun iForce," said Joe Womack, vice president, Americas eSun Partner Sales, "offering best-of-breed solutions, products and services based upon Sun technology. This is an important market for Sun, and specialized iForce Partners like StorageTek are key to delivering value to our customers."
Provides Features that Result in Saving Time, Money and Resources The disk array is a full Fibre Channel RAID disk system with a unique architecture that can help users save time and money by providing RAID 1 performance at RAID 5 costs. It features scalable packaging that allows users to save money by expanding performance or storage capacity on a "pay as you grow" basis. In addition, the disk array's fully redundant components and controller fail-over provides continuous access to data and enhances service levels. Its Object Manager saves storage administration resources by providing a streamlined, centralized storage array management tool.
