Porting involves a lot of work and even more testing. There is also the issue of api equivalency and library compatibility. So you usually end up with a lowest common denominator product that is not optimizing in terms of performance, scalability or features for anything.

Couple this with the fact you now have a product that targets just a small subset of the market and must be supported and maintained. That recipe has been tried in the Unix world for years and usually results in buggy, expensive and non-profitable software for all but the major platforms and vendors (Solaris AIX, HP-UX, Oracle and big ERPs). Which is why commercial developers sometimes do it but generally would rather not. Wine and variants have been around for years but do not solve this intractable situation.

As for objectivity, perhaps you could use a dose too. I deal with integrating Windows with Unix, mainframes, Netware, other dbms's and applications everyday. This gives me a wide view of these issues and is why I view interoperability not porting cross platform as usually the best path.

Windows provides the best interoperability in the industry in terms of tools and standards and therefore allows companies to leverage their investments in existing systems, move forward with cost effective Windows solutions and not delve into the expense and pain of the porting morass.
