JB:
<<Anyone know when this will hit revenue?>>
It's still subject to some debate, but initially, most of WIND's revenue will be directly tied to Intel's shipment of I960 RP and RD chips, which carry a $1.50-$2.00 royalty for each chip shipped. Intel estimates that they will ship between 10-15 million chips over the next 18 months, with most of that production scheduled for calender 1998 (Allen, please correct me if I'm wrong on my figures).
Several server manufacturers, such as Micronics, have already announced designs with I2O capabilities, and it should only be a matter of time before the big manufacturers such as Dell and Compaq incorporate I2O functionality into their servers. In addition, Intel has announced that I2O is a major initiative for them, so expect them to push designs through the system. A 30 day trial of Tornado for IxWorks will also be included with each run-time license, so expect a lot of additional design wins as a result. As has been discussed already on this thread, I2O is experiencing other benefits as well, that were not initally intended (see Techweb and search I2O for a full run of added benefits).
My own instinct is that I2O will become an industry standard, pushed ahead by Intel and Microsoft, and will show explosive numbers once it migrates to the client side. Exactly when this will occur is also subject to debate. Perhaps Allen can enlighten us as to his thoughts regarding the timing.
Hope this helps.
