Nortel Networks (NYSE:NT), North America's No. 2 phone-equipment maker, agreed
today to buy the 91% of electronic commerce software maker Epicon it doesn't
already own, for $275 million in stock. Epicon's software is designed for
companies doing business with each other over the Internet, so called
business-to-business electronic commerce. Nortel plans to sell products that
distribute electronic commerce software over the Internet, allowing companies to
rent rather than buy programs as demand increases. Nortel shares were up 1 at 64
9/16 in midday trading.
