Sunspot, ...integration of the database with MS Office will NOT be done using ODBC, ADO etc., but using HTTP and tabulator separated ASCII. ... Are you aware of SOAP, a simple, cross platform way of communicating with objects/data structures over XML? A lot of companies are planning to use it for simple data exchange, and it's also capable of representing cross platform schema information. IBM just released a Java implementation of SOAP to Apache as well. It might get you out of the business of defining your own formatting and creating something that will be able to speak with a larger variety of systems down the road. Mike
