Steve,
RE:"Even if Intel sells coppermines for $1, timna is still probly gonna be cheaper cos u have forgotten to take the cost of the chipset into account.

What makes you think Intel can sell a Timna cheaper than a
Coppermine? Timnas die will be much larger.
Sure the chipset cost will make a difference but history tells us that it's hard to even give away slow Mhz chips...

RE:"In terms of today's high end processors becoming tomorrows low end processors and displacing timna, that won't happen either cos Intel discontinue low end coppermines before that becomes a problem. i.e they don't make P3 300's cos that would threaten celeron and be a waste of fab capacity"

Someone should tell Microsoft that low end Coppermines won't be manufactured before they find out there is nothing to put in an X-box...<G> On the other hand, something tells me Intel is contractually bound to make what will be considered low speed coppermines next year. If they choose only to sell them to Microsoft then I see a really big problem. If you had a choice for a 700 Mhz X-box for $300 or a 500 Mhz Timna for $400 which one do you think will sell?...and maybe the OEM forced to make the Timna Box is a little Poed and wants his share of Coppermines @ good prices.
