I can say conclusively that there is no discontinuous innovation coming from Sun with this product line. There is no new technology at all, except for a set of APIs for others to use to integrate in Sun's storage management foundation. Now that IS an attack against EMC, which is a closed architecture. Effective? I do not have an opinion yet.

I am a bit surprised that EMC's stock did not react to the Sun announcement if the drop in NTAP is attributable to that announcement.

We will have to watch how NTAP addresses the Sun announcement and how their win rate is affected in the month's ahead. I am optimistic that NTAP's architecture is much more compelling that the SUN design. The fact that NTAP's file system is more efficient than that same old UNIX BFS that Sun is still using has weight.

I will not take Sun's word that they have a price advantage over NTAP. I have not seen the numbers.
