I wouldn't worry about GM food. The first reason being, our food resources have been the result of selective breeding and genetic manipulation since the dawn of agriculture and the domestication of animals. This about all of those new breeds of cows that exist which never existed before. How about cats and dogs? Most cat breeds are man-made through selective breeding.
The second reason is that very few poisonous foods taste good. That's natures way of protecting them and alerting animals to which fruits and seeds actually are. Plants have evolved to rely upon animals to spread their seeds. My point being that if man genetically altered a fruit to the point that it became poisonous, we'd probably taste it.
Other than that, as consumers of food, we do not necesssarily take on the properties, appearances, or genetic structure of the food we consume. We break it down, destroy its genetic structure and turn that mass into energy. That is the real fear-mongering attitude prevelant in the anti-GM movement. Very similar to the hysteria that prevents meat packers from making extensive use of irradiation to kill the harmful bacteria like ecoli, a problem far more grievous than anything the GM movement can imagine.
