The super-cool and low power Crusoe processor is
poised to revolutionize mobile computing.

According to an article in the 8.07 (July) issue of Wired
magazine ("Transmeta Inside" p.174), executives at
Transmeta Corporation:

have secured a tier-one notebook vendor that's
set to unveil a Crusoe powered machine at PC
Expo. The 700 MHz notebook will weigh less
than 3 pounds and run all day on one battery;
it will be rolling off production lines late this
year.

One of the main features of the Crusoe chip that makes it
perfect for mobile applications is that it is extremely
low-powered:

Crusoe processors, on the other hand, have
been designed from the start for mobile
applications. Our unique Code Morphing
technology has allowed us to drastically reduce
the processor's power consumption without
sacrificing performance. The Crusoe
processor's low power usage even includes the
power for integrated support circuitry (called
the "Northbridge" in the PC industry);
conventional processors need a separate chip
that uses additional power.

Apple has been rumored to be testing the new
software-powered microprocessor in PowerBook prototypes,
as are most traditional PC notebook vendors.

The only formal announcement that has been made about
the processor in a notebook was by Gateway ("Gateway and
AOL Bypass Industry Stalwarts on Components").
AOL/Gateway announced that the Crusoe chip and Linux will
power their upcoming Internet Appliance in the form of a
Web pad.
