Well, it's not enough to read: you have to comprehend
Hmm.. I comprehend quite a few things, bud. Certainly I comprehend someone like yourself spreading your Anti-Corel propaganda in hopes that it overwhelms objective debate.
Personally, I think Cowpland should step down for the good of the company. However, I don't share the vehement hatred for him that you apparently do. And now his percentage control in CORL has been diluted by the recent financing. That can only be a positive thing long-term.
Rather, what I care about is whether WP200O stands as a viable product offering for the Linux market, providing similar performance and ease of use that is the Raison d'Etre of any GUI system, as well as the fact that MSFT has no public plans or motivation to support Linux with its office suite.
I find it very difficult to believe that WP is the mish-mash of garbled coding that you claim that it is. Certainly not one that possesses a quality inferior to the mish-mash of garbled, bloated code and "undocumented features" laden (since no MSFT product ever contains "bugs" or glitches in THEIR eyes), sevice pack reliant, products MSFT pawns off on unsuspecting consumers.
Unfortunately, many people, including myself, are goaded into sticking with predominantly MS office apps, due to the constant MSFT fearmongering, that not exclusively using MSFT applications only invites problems that MSFT won't support or resolve should the OS have issues.
In fact, you are one of the few individuals in my experience who has been so incredibly vitriolic about the inferiority of Corel Products to those of MSFT. In my life, I've never heard a derogatory word about WordPerfect, or any other Corel product (but have heard many people complain about the overall complexity of ALL computer applications. This I discounted as the whinings of the techno-phobic).
Now to be honest, I haven't used WP since I used to type up my term papers on WP5.1 Dos. But the Mrs. exclusively uses CorelDraw and loves it.. In fact, I cut my presentation slide-making teeth on PowerPoint, but when I saw CorelDraw8, I never went back. It is the program we use exclusively for graphics, flyers..etc. Thankfully, I do far fewer presentations these days, but the skills remain. So while my recent experience with WP is limited, I would have to also say that I have relatively little experience with Linux. However, in my quest for an alternative to "the empire", I'm willing to explore the Linux OS so long as I'm able to maintain a comfort level with what I've already learned, namely a GUI based point & click system. That is why I'm so interested in WP for Linux. So long as performance is similar to the Windows version, I see an emmense opportunity for bringing Linux to its rightful place as a viable OS.
And I think there are a lot of people like me out there.
So in my quest for some objectivity, I went out and did several web searches for software comparisons between MSOffice and WP (not very many out there). The first site was very objective and certainly didn't seem to reflect the comments of some paid shill reviewer from either company. Very enlightening, and furthermore Rod, he seems to share NONE OF YOUR BELIEFS ABOUT THE INFERIORITY OF WORD PERFECT to MSWord. He also doesn't display any of your vitriol towards Corel. humlog.homestead.com
And if that isn't enough, folks can go to the following site and ask the "experts" why WP prevails over MSWord.

Again, in all of my experience, most people who have used WP regretted the fact that they were forced to use MSWord. However, most have understood that CIOs would prefer only having to deal with one vendor, namely MSFT for their IT needs, rather than having to deal with several. Most understood the "need" for change on that basis, given the MSFT OS monopoly. But none provided any support for the vile fearmongering and half-truths that people, like yourself, present as fact when relating the inferiority of Corel products? Well, like I said before, you're the first one who has ever shown such hatred for Corel. Most only show pity that such fine products were apparently doomed by the MSFT monopoly. But then again, are they really doomed, or will Linux breath fresh life into CORL? Linux obviously opens up a whole new environment out there, doesn't it? And if CORL can succeed in marketing its software on that platform, you may just have to cover that short position you likely hold in the stock.
BTW, I've trained on, and used NT. I'm not impressed with its reliability, or scalability and most of the folks I know WHO DO RUN 24/7 servers also hate the friggin' system.
But hey.... if that's what the CIO/MIS manager wants?... Well then...three bags full, sir!!!
Look at the origins of NT. It was brought about by Digital's VMS team (who all defected to MSFT for lucrative stock options, no doubt). Slap a GUI on it, a bunch of bloated code permitting usage with the bloated code from other MSFT applications, and you have the creation of a 10 headed hydra looming for any SysAdmin. And so long as MSFT is in existence, that will never change.

In sum, you can ramble all you want about Cowpland, but the current wave of opinion does not substantiate your views about WP's inferiority. And anything that brings people towards a Linux environment should be viewed as a positive, not a negative. There are lots of people out there like me who are interested in Linux, but just a little gunshy about violating their comfort zone with GUIs. I think WP will be a hot seller over the coming years.
