Brazil media group, PT to join forces in Internet Reuters, 06/15/2000 20:25 SAO PAULO, June 15 (Reuters) - Brazil's Gazeta Mercantil media group and Portugal Telecom (LIS:PTCO) will announce early on Friday in Lisbon their partnership in the Internet sphere, the Brazilian group said on Thursday. The announcement will be made on the Lisbon Stock Exchange at the opening of the market. Gazeta Mercantil group, which runs the Gazeta Mercantil economic newspaper, would not comment on the alliance, but local press speculated Portugal Telecom, which is an active player on the Brazilian market, could pay $60 million for a 50 percent stake in Gazeta's electronic news service Investnews.
