The central government has recently approved the establishment of Tianzhu Export Processing Zone in Beijing, the first such zone in the city.
The zone is located at Beijing Konggang Industrial Zone, one km west of Beijing International Airport.
Warehouses and other building have been built in the zone. Other facilities such as banks, customs, insurance companies, office buildings, exhibition center, and entertainment facilities will be built soon, Xinhua News Agency reported.
Some 60 enterprises including 23 well-known international firms such as Ericsson, Motorola and Sony have invested US$890 million in the zone.
Meanwhile, another Xinhua report said an Export Processing Zone will be designated in Tianjin, a port city about two-hour drive from Beijing.
The local officials said the central government has approved their application for the construction of such Zone.
The Tianjin Zone is expected to home more than 2,000 overseas-funded enterprises with an annual output value exceeding US$7.2 billion.
The planned Zone, which covers 2.54 sq km, will be located in the northeastern part of the development zone, about one km from the Tianjin Port and the Tianjin Port Bond Zone.
In addition to other preferential treatments, products manufactured by the processing zone will be exempted from value-added tax, local officials said.
With access to water, power and natural gas, the Zone will soon begin to build factories. |
