DanieL: You are right. LSI needs to put up or shut up on this issue. Clearly their reliability will be vitiated should they not deliver.

However, there are a few points that need to be considered.

1. LSI has always said that it will only announce big CDMA wins once they start shipping product. The reason for this is because of their customers' fears that QCOM will shut them off during any transition period from QCOM to LSI.

2. LSI has always said that they are expecting about 200 hundred million dollars a year in 2001 for CDMA business. This figure seems to have been enlarged to several hundred million. Given that this amount would be about 7 percent of their business, it would be utterly irresponsible to not only predict this amount of business, but to increase its prediction as well.

3. LSI has also increased the time period in which it will be increasing its communications business. Clearly they are not fantasizing these figures, given that these figures represent projections for the current quarter and the upcoming quarter.

Thus, it would appear that LSI is poised to announce major CDMA wins--but not until they are apparent to the public, simply because of fear of retribution by QCOM.
