Good news for everyone?
I'll tell you the first thought that comes to my mind. If the memory industry agree's to the Rambus fee's on DDRDRAM technology, it could resolve all the contentious issues facing not only the chip makers, but Intel and the box makers. (And aren't the chip makers used to patent fee's anyway)? Wouldn't that remove many of the issues around platform decisions caused by the Rambus factor? If we suddenly found Intel, Rambus and OEM support for DDR memory where it makes sense, wouldn't everyone be a lot happier? I think there are powerful forces at play in the background here. I'm sure that Intel would love to get this whole conflict resolved and get on with developing products unconstrained by contractual agreements and perceived or real allegiances.
And I also have to believe the box makers would be the happiest of all. (And of course, the Intel shareholders). <g>
