Hi Gene Parrott; I don't think there is any way that the major memory makers are going to pay even 1% royalties on SDRAM or DDR. Not a chance. Check out how much royalties Mosaid gets from the memory makers, to get an idea of what kind of royalties commodity DRAMs involve. But it is possible that Rambus might get to collect the same level of royalties that Mosaid gets. This would have negligible impact on the industry, and might be better for a lot of them than giving the money to the lawyers (and risking the US court system).

Even with RDRAM royalties of 1 or 2%, the royalties are not a significant reason for the high cost of the technology.
