"All the phonemaker Nokia,Motoroal et all will see a slow down in sales.
They prefer that you get a new handset."

Orson, I understand your point about Nokia & Motorola building obsolescence into the product line, but I think the idea of modular hardware and software extensions is a good one with merit. Recall that people are not used to paying for handsets. They let the service provider bear the burden of cost. Also, some phenomenal number of cell phone users actually switch service providers within the first year of sign-up in order to get better rates or a better tailored service. Once the cost is shifted to the consumer they will think twice about acquiring a new handset each time.

I hardly see a cellphone handset as a disposable item. Once consumers participate in the purchase of a handset the beauty of modularity will become evident. All you have to do is look at Handspring in order to witness this trend. Nokia and Motorola can still make money selling the upgrades that improve functionality, be they software or hardware modules.

All IMHO.
