wiz.

hadn't heard of this HOLDR until you posted -- thanks. i'll admit that this one's more intriguing especially for an amateur hack like me who's pretty ignorant in the space. (initially, i didn't think too much of ML's foray here particularly after i saw the seriously overbloated LU position in the broadband [BDH] trust.)

on a vaguely related note, i was wondering if you had heard of Folio[fn]? it's a new online brokerage firm started by a former SEC commissioner, Steve Wallman, that hopes to take on the mutual fund industry. in a nutshell, for a annual fee, they allow you to create your own personal online "folios" which can be weighted by individual stocks (and purchased in fractional shares). they also have a number of canned folios that can be tweaked to your liking. for example, say you wanted to establish something similar to IIH, but hated AKAMikaze, you could zero it out. you could also set it up as a DRIP. (given the $295 annual fee, i think the current "breakeven" estimate that Wallman uses for a mutual fund comparison is $30k to open an account.)

i'd be curious to get your take on the company's services to the individual investor and if you think it's a sustainable business (vice "profitless prosperity" to quote TD) model.

if you like, you can check out the goods here:

fwiw, they've got talent and pretty deep pockets.
