We've talked on the phone about this, Cobe, so really I'm posting this for all.
I called Claudia again and told her that a number of Edwarda's friends are going to send her checks to help with the expenses of the trip. (Claudia didn't mention losing pay as one of the expenses; but it is all the same.) As soon as she heard that, she said she was going to fly up -- now that she knew she would be able to repay the debt, she could borrow money for the tickets for her and her daughter. She was very relieved. More than relieved. She had decided the only way to get there was to drive -- that meant a 22 hour trip from Georgia in July, no one to share the driving with, in a 1984 Subaru with 126k miles on it.
Cobe has located a very good fare for her, and she will be contacting Cobe about it. She has Cobe's number.
Claudia asked me to say this:
"I can not possibly express the depth of my gratitude to all these people who don't know me from a hole in the wall."
She tried to tell me more to say to you all, but she was sobbing so much I said that was enough, I would tell you.
It would be considerate if anyone who plans to send a check (Edwarda would certainly prefer that to flowers) leave that message at the number above, so Claudia knows she can count on that.
And I will send the address if you PM me. After I leave, Rambi has it, Cobe has it. Other generous souls do, too. |
